Oilers Lose in Another Shootout

By Raffaele Papaianni  ·  April 14, 2026

EDMONTON — Another frustrating night, but not all bad for the Oilers.

Edmonton fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Place Monday, and while it stings, this team is still 6-2-2 in their last 10.

That said, the shootout continues to be a problem. The Oilers are now 0-4 in shootouts this season.

They have also dropped four of their last five, and you can feel they are just missing that extra finish right now. A big part of that is no Leon Draisaitl and no Zach Hyman. Both were back skating earlier in the day, which is a great sign, but the lineup just does not have the same punch without them.

Connor McDavid scored his 49th goal of the season to tie it up, but it was not enough. This one was a straight goalie battle. Edmonton had chances and pushed at times but could not bury anything else. It goes to the shootout and Nathan MacKinnon ends it.

That is the difference right now. One finish.

The effort was there. The results just are not lately. Still, zoom out a bit. This team is 6-2-2 in their last 10 and getting healthier at the right time.

They just need to start finishing again.
